Weekend Happenings

Another weekend that has flown by. It seems there is never enough time to accomplish all I want or need to do.
Saturday Colleen and I took a class at Devine Memories with Kim Kwan. We made an art journal and had so much fun painting and constructing the journal out of recycled and reused things. It was interesting to see what we all used and the ideas everyone had. It was a quiet class which is very unusual for the group that was there. Usually Colleen, Kim H, Maija and I are the loud chatter bugs not yesterday. Guess we were all so into our projects we weren't talking much. Kim is so much fun and gave us lots of ideas and encouragement. I used my Stampin Up water crayons for the first time and they were amazing. After we packed up and did a little shopping we went to grab something to eat at Wildflower as poor Colleen had not eaten before class due to her Tai Chi World Peace thing in Scottsdale. We had a really nice visit and we all got caught up on what has been going on in our lives.

Colleen and I were really excited when she dropped me off as Carol Wingert's monthly kit was waiting at my door. Looks like another great kit and we are going to work on them together next Sat at my house. Should be a fun day.

When we were at class, Kim K had the cutest little jars for water for our paint brushes. When we asked her where she got these cute jars we found out they contained yogurt from Tader Joe's. So after dinner we made a quick stop at Trader Joe's and yeap you guessed it picked up some yogurt. Not only are the jars cute but the yogurt is soooo good. I have had the mixed berry and the ginger cinnamon and both are great

The cute little jar!!

My covers that I was working on for my art journal

Some of the pages. I used envelopes, post cards, plastic bags that rub ons came in, chipboard, a little canvas, scraps of paper. basically you name it I used it

Tags that I adhered together and sprayed with glimmer mist

More pages

Some of the journal pages I put in

And here it is put together. I had to make myself stop as I could have gone on and on as I was having so much fun recycling lots of stuff.

So laundry awaits me. I guess I need to accomplish something besides creating today. Have a great week. Later

Friday at last

Wow another week of April is gone. It was a fairly busy week at work with lots of office patients and more difficult knee rehab and weight training seesions. Good thing I have a patient trainer as I surely did complain this week especially Thursday with the kick boxing and the grueling horrid stair climber machine. But it is Friday and the short weekend looms ahead. I have class with Kim Kwan tomorrow at Devine Memories. I am really looking forward to that. Have many things packed for the class. We are doing an Art Journal.

Lets see it was a pretty quiet week. I am hooked on Dancing With the Stars and of course American Idol. I was so disappointed Carley was eliminated. And my favorites are still on Dancing with the Stars.

Wed nite was our extra class at Jan's. We made 5 really fun cards using some new techniques. Bleach was the big technique and we made a beautiful floral card plus some really cute baby cards.

A while back actually it was during Kim's birthday countdown I won a give away on Debra Schoch blog. It was waiting on my doorstep when I got home from work yesterday. What a fun box to open as it was packed to the brim will all kinds of the neatest treasures. Lots of wallpaper, pictures, fibers, jewelry and the most beautiful white glittered star with a sweet little girl on it. So much stuff. Thanks again Debra

Last Sunday I decided to try to get my fountain in my front area to work again. Well that was a no go so I ended up running around looking for a new fountain pump. I was able to find one and now my fountain is bubbling away. I picked up more hibiscus bushes while I was out and a few more flowers and managed to get them planted. So far almost a week later they are still alive. It is a miracle I know

And again while running around I figured if I am back to kick boxing and more exercising I need new tennis shoes. So I now own these bright red ones and I love them

And I treated myself to the flowering teapot and pods. I have wanted one for awhile and when I found it I snapped it up. Haven't had a chance to use it yet but plan to brew some flowering tea this weekend and sit out on my patio enjoying life

The War Continues!!!

My saga with TJ's parrot continues. How come us Moms get all the pets to keep when children move and can't have animals??? Good question as I am the lucky recipient of the parrot and a lovable lab.
Anyway the saga of this bird never ends. As I had posted before TJ arrived yesterday to help me in the yard and the pool the bird was not on his best behaviour this past week. Well I decided it was a good time to clean the bird cage namely my son was here to monitor the bird. Best laid plans right? I wasn't as careful as I could or should have been and Mr Parrot escaped his cage and to make matters worse MOCKED me with his evil laugh. I proceeded to clean the drawer put nicely laid newspapers in the bottom all neat. After a bit of difficulty and a towel wrapped around the bird TJ was able to get him back in. He was a not happy, he was a miserable angry bird. He promptly went to the bottom of the cage and ripped up the paper and proceeded to throw it out of the cage piece by piece. I swept up the mess before I went to bed last nite and this is what greeted me this am!!!! So once again I am cleaning up hs food and pieces of paper and meanwhile he is a happy little bird his favorite CD is playing and he is signing to his heart's content. Grrrrr!!!!

I am off to work in the yard for awhile. Trying to get my fountain to work. Have a great day

Saturday Happenings

What a busy day. TJ came in from Casa Grande with difficulty due to the resurfacing on I-10, 202 and whatever other road he wanted. He helped me well he did it trim the bushes in the front yard. We cleaned up that mess and it looks good. We met Jen, John, and the kids for lunch at a noisy pub. But we still had fun. After our lunch TJ and I worked on the pool and the pool area. I got almost all of the weeds pulled and TJ brushed down the sides of the pool, shocked it and put in the algacide. Hopefully this will clear it up.

I joined Karla and Beth's "Birds and Bonnets" Vintage workshop swap. After joining they sent a link for the images to be downloaded. We needed to make 4 panels front and back with at least one of the images they sent. We have a wide range to choose from. There are vintage women in bonnets, birds and wallpapers. They could all be alike or all different. This has been a ball trying to figure out what I wanted to do. After we mail them in they will combine four panels and join to make a screen.

So anyway I did 4 birds and 4 women using a combination of the images.

Then to accompany the panels they asked for 4 tags with our information on them. This is what I came up with

My tag for the Nursery Rhyme Swap I am hosting. The tags are arriving and it is such fun to see what everyone is doing. I have Cheryl, Suzanne, Heidi, Kim and Colleen's tags. Each is so unique and beautiful. Lots of work went into the tags. I can't wait till the rest arrive.

A New Look

I was getting really tired and frustrated with the look of my old blog, so I took the plunge and switched to the new and improved?? blogger. After a pretty frustrating evening and some time this am I think I have my new blog figured out and hopefully fixed. So there it is the new blog. The banner is from Mike P. He has banners on his flickr site for us illiterate computer people to use. Thanks Mike.
I like the fact that I can now add buttons for the swaps I do, and I can kind of sort of figure out my banner. So at least for now this is the new and improved look of the day

My bird has been oh so very bad this week. Everytime I clean his cage and put fresh papers down he scrambles to the bottom and rips them into tiny shred. Usually alot of them end up on the floor. I was so mad at him last Sun PM when he immediately started this that I threw his empty bird food container in the cage hoping he would focus on that. Well he didn't. But when I waked in the door Tuesday he was inside the container. Tried to get a pic but everytime I would open the door he would come out. So here is a pic of him through the bars

No big plans yet for the weekend. Guess we will see what it brings.

What a Day

I was lucky enough to have a very full, long, lots of laughter, creative day with Tim Holtz at Mystic Paper and to help Kim celebrate her birthday. It was a day filled with tons of creativity, laughter and celebrating. Kim C and Cheryl S drove in from California Friday and were able to pull off a big surprise for Kim. Yes she was surprised if the shreaks when she turned around were any indication. There were 6 of us enjoying the entire day with Kim and Tim Holtz. After our first class we met Michelle for lunch. I hadn't seen her in a long while so it was good to catch up. I guess we now have the same reputation as Kim H and her groups as one lady moved several tables back as we were a bit loud I guess??? before the 1st class started OOPS!!! Once class started we were model students. No really we were!!!

Here is Colleen and Kim before our day started. Those of you that know Colleen know that she picked me up early and we stopped at Starbucks and were at Mystic by 7:45. Class starts at what time you ask 9AM. Colleen was beyond excited as she has waited for forever to take a class with Tim Holtz

Sue M and Colleen agin before class. There were 50 of us in the class so if you look behind Sue and Colleen you can see how far back all the tables went.

Tim Holtz getting ready for his apron demo. Yes we all bought the aprons. Really cool comfortable aprons and yes he signed all 6 of our aprons as well as Mario signed them. It was fun

The signed apron

Ok first class was called Industrial Grunge. Tim demonstrated his new grunge board and we painted distressed and played with all kinds of "stuff" to make wearable art. Really alot of fun/ Finished up all my pieces Then it was off to meet Michelle at Sweetcakes for lunch. Yes we made some lady move so all 7 of us could eat together but we were NICE!!!
Here are all my pieces

Afternoon class turned out to be my favorite "Vintage Trinkets" Tim taught us to make a button bracelet and a necklace. Some of us took so long doing her buttons as she was collaging little pieces of paper for the back of the buttons, that Tim gave her another handful of buttons to help her along!!! Did you finish all those buttons Kim H???

The button bracelet

After our second class we met Kim's husband Craig, Kameron, Kelsey and Aliya for dinner. Good food and lots of fun watching Kim's expression with the family birthday cards and gifts.

Our 3rd and final class was a lighted shadow box. We had our choice of a bird or a skeleton for inside the box. We were given a burlap bag filled to the brim with all kinds of treaures to use in building a collage type scene in our ox. Kim C did a beautiful box with soft pinks, tea cup and figurine for her daughter. Kim H got Mario to drill holes for her bird nest to go through and went in a whole totally different direction than most of us. Colleen and Sue chose the skeleton and of course I chose the bird. This was fun and a bit frustrating building the collage as things kept tipping and falling over.

Kim's seat place marker. The trinkets kept growing around it.

Her cake from Better Than Sex cake store and it was good!!

And finally I am done with my day. I was tired but filled with lots of creative ideas, and great memories of a special day with "the Group" ( Kim H, Colleen J, Sue M, Kim C, Cheryl S and me). We had a blast. It is really too bad Kim and Cheryl live in California as we had so much fun with them. Just think of all the classes and trouble we would be in if they lived here. Had a ball with you guys

Finally a peak at what I did last weekend for my Nursery Rhyme Tag Swap. I wanted a way to display the tags so I took and old window screen, ripped out the screening and put in chicken wire and viola a place to hang my tags

Hope all had a good weekend. Now to put things away and rest. Tomorrow is work!!

Weekend

Here it is Sunday already. My gosh the weekend is almost gone and it will be back to work tomorrow. But it is one more day closer to Tim Holtz next Saturday.
This was a good rehab week for me. I have been out of my brace since Wednesday and so far so good. Exercises going well, knee now bends at 90 degrees and I can walk half way normal. Have a ways to go, well along ways, but this has been a week of good progress. I am much less depressed and worried about my final outcome at this stage of the game. As you can see in the pic below the knee is less swollen and actually looks like a real knee!!!

Yesterday I cleaned and did laundry while Colleen took her father-in-law to a Parkinson seminar. Colleen was on cloud nine when she stopped by. Roy was able to stand from a sitting position and walk maintaining his balance with the therapy they taught him. Yeah Roy!! We decidied to take a short trip to find our copper etching chemicals and to see a new store. It was almost four so it was a fast furious trip in Colleen's new car. We found the Tim Holtz stamp tins we have been looking for for a year. Love it and have my stamps in it already. No luck on the chemicals however. A quick stop at Wildflower and home again. It was good to get out for a bit.

I was just stepping in the shower yesterday when my phone rang and I had surprise visitors. Kim and Aliya stopped by to see me. I haven't seen Aliya in forever. and to top it off they gave me something I have had my eye on for forever at the antique store. Was I shocked and was I happy. We had a great visit and Aliya loved the bird. He was pretty much on his best behaviour and sang to her.
The red is the perfect color for my kitchen but...... I had other ideas

Yeap I put all my buttons in there. It is so perfect and I am loving it. It will be much easier to find buttons now. Thanks you two!!!

I have finally found a picture to put in the house we made at CIB. This was Kim's class and I loved it. I didn't get a good pic but it has a copper roof on it. Loving it. It goes well with the love we made in another of her classes.

And I bet you are wondering what these are. Well I got a new Cricut cartridge called Home Decor so I was playing making flourishes and flowers and birds and more flourishes. Going to use these on my tags for my swap

But before I could play I had to clean my table off. It must have been stacked 3 feet high. But it is clean now. I need to get in here and organize and get rid of stuff but for now this is good.

And last, I was taking pictures of things today and someone was very grumpy and hissing and growling at me. Oops guess I disturbed him. Looks so happy doesn't he

Hope all are having a great weekend. It is beautiful here in Arizona
